3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheel buggy is great for off-roading providing an easy ride for your child. They can also be easier to push and maneuver than a four-wheel buggy, particularly those with fabric sling seats or modular seat units that are positioned perfectly within the frame, providing the most efficient geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

A three wheeled buggies-wheel buggy has excellent stability, which is the reason it is a great choice for off road walking (especially with an all-terrain or off-road style seat). They usually have large front wheels that can deal well with bumps and kerbs and rough ground. Some models have a lockable wheel in the front to give you extra stability when driving on uneven terrain.

A three-wheeled stroller is a great option for those who run or love to speed up the hill. This is particularly true if you are planning to attach to a car seat or carrycot. It also features a more comfortable 5-point harness and storage space for all your equipment (plus an extension of 50+ sun hood). It's lightweight, compact and suitable for babies and can be used in conjunction with the use of a car seat or carrycot. It can also be used for light jogging but is not intended for serious runners.

Weight

If you're looking for a buggy that can handle the tough terrain, you need one with large wheels. They will be able to handle cobbles, grass and dirt tracks while providing the smoothest ride for anyone. They're also ideal for jogging because they come with suspension and are simple to climb and descend kerbs. The downside is that they're a bit heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy (my webpage) to use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3 wheel strollers-wheeler has 16 rear wheels with an swivel wheel lockable to the front which makes it very maneuverable. It has air tyres which require pumping occasionally and can hold a child up to the age of 3. It is also easy to move up and down kerbs and fits in a the car's boot space in a small size. It can also be used as a pram, with a carrycot or infant car seat for infants and toddlers.

Fabric slings are placed within the frame, not on top like modular seats. This design has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the perfect height. It is much easier to push and lighter to kerb pop (you can't underestimate the number of times you'll do this as a new parent!).

Seating

There are a variety of alternatives for seating options in 3 wheel twin stroller wheelers. For a newborn you have the option to use the carrycot and (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cosy and comfortable lie-flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy) and older infants and toddlers can use the world-facing or parent facing seat that is spacious and padded and does have adjustable ventilation. It's worth noting that the seats don't recline fully, but they can be lowered to the lowest setting which will give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.

A sling made of fabric is also available. It is advantageous in that it is located inside the frame rather than on top as a seat that is modular. This means that it has a lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, especially over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this type of seat handled obstacles.

This kind of buggy comes with a large basket and other useful features like an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, an easy to use brake pedal, and some unique visibility lights that can be positioned in front of occupants to increase safety on rough terrain.

Stores

The 3-wheeled frame makes the buggy much more sturdy to push one-handed and is also ideal for handling rough terrain. However, it means that the shopping basket can't hold the same amount as a 4-wheeled buggy.

A good quality ATP will have a top suspension, pneumatic tyres and padding for the handle for your convenience. It will be able to accommodate a car seat, which means you can use it from birth.

MFM's reviewers have noticed that the 3-wheeler frame can't pass through all doors in their homes, or small car boots - make sure to check the dimensions of the buggy once it's folded before purchasing if you're worried about space.

It's worth looking for 3-wheelers that can accommodate two (or even 3!) This is the best 3 wheel pushchair choice for your child's future and will save you money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most well-known. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggy, and then converted into twin buggies when your baby starts to walk.

Tyres

Air filled tyres have been designed to provide your child with an easier ride by cushioning bumps and uneven surfaces. They are typically found on pushchairs like the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said provided "an exceptional ride for her toddler". She also noted that the grippy tires of the Phil and Ted's Sport made it easy for her to navigate the kerbs and other obstacles.

These tyres can be difficult to maintain and need to have their air pressure topped up regularly. They are also more prone to punctures than foam tyres. So you'll need to ensure that you have a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump in case you go out and about with your buggy.

PU tyres are found on more pushchairs than the air-filled tyres, but they are still just as durable. You can recognise PU tyres by their matte appearance and soft, smooth feel. They also slide easily on even and tied surfaces.

If you rub your hands over the tyres you can tell if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it is sliding then it is a rubber or PU. You can also check that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres by slipping the tyres over a clean, flat surface - they'll be able to roll easily and should fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain that comes with high-performance buggies. This could make your buggy less stable since the foam loses its springy quality. The tyres can also be noisy because they generate a lot noise when you turn and navigate around the town.
