There are also crossover models that offer an excellent compromise between off-road and high-street. They have big wheels, great suspension, and are designed in a pushchair-style, with an option for reversible seating and a carrycot. The best models are made by brands like iCandy Easywalker and Bugaboo.

Wheels

All-terrain pushchairs are essential if you live in a rural area or take your child on regular walks through rough terrain. These models typically have larger back wheels than standard pushchairs, making them better at handling bumpy off-road terrains and ensuring an easy ride for your child. Many also come with a sturdy suspension and puncture-proof types so that they're suitable for use on woodland, grass or paths through the forest, gravel tracks and market town cobbles.

Certain all-terrain pushchairs come with a lockable front wheel which offers more stability when walking on rough terrain or on high kerbs. Some have swivel wheels on the front that allow you to move the buggy with ease in case you want to change direction or turn corners.

All-terrain strollers come with air-filled tyres which are ideal for tackling rough terrain. However, they are more prone to punctures than the EVA tyres used on lighter city strollers. There are some excellent all-terrain pushchairs that are ideal for parents who want to take their child off-road, but don't want to tackle Ben Nevis. They provide the best of both. Find a model with an excellent all-terrain capability, solid suspension and large puncture-proof wheels, but built in a more traditional pushchair style with reversible seats as well as full carrycot options.

UPPAbaby's well-known Ridge all-terrain pushchair is an excellent example of this; it provides excellent suspension, a simple fold, and a large 10kg basket. It also has features for parents that are child-friendly, like an adjustable handlebar, hand-operated brake on the right side and a large covered storage space. The hood can be removed, and washed using cool soapy-water to avoid mould or mildew.

If you're planning on driving your all-terrain pushchair off road it's a good idea to choose air-filled tyres instead of ones with rubber grips. These will give a smoother ride on rough ground and be easier to manoeuvre in tight spaces. If you plan to use your all-terrain pushchair to jog occasionally, make sure that the front wheel can be swivelable or has a quick-release facility to lock it in position for better stability.

To ensure that the fabric is in good condition, ensure that they can be machine-washed. If not, spot cleaning with warm water and a bit of soap gentle enough should be sufficient. Drying the fabric completely outdoors will also help to prevent mildew and mould from forming.
